Christmas - Malawi style

Christmas was sort-of the same – AfroSanta came and left stockings, we ate chocolate before breakfast and wore paper crowns from crackers, a chicken tried its best to be a turkey and a mini-Christmas pudding flamed with brandy like it should. I had a lovely day with Duncan and Ali and our adopted granny Elaine, I got messages from home and spoke to my family so I don’t have anything to complain about as I’m sure a lot of people didn’t even have that, but it felt a bit strange imagining and talking about what was happening at home but not actually being there. What I certainly haven’t missed though is the endless Christmas ads on telly and the crazy January Sales that I heard actually started on Christmas day – is that true??

We're off to see in the new year with a midnight swim - hope you all have a good one too! One of the students here wished me a Happy and Preposterous 2008, I hadn't the heart to explain why I hope his wishes don't come true!
