We've been here 6 months and after a long tactics discussion Ali and I came to the conclusion that something pretty radical has to occur before things can improve properly round here. Whats been done so far has got no one anywhere so, we came up with a plan.
We've shamelessly promoted ourselves to the positions of Assistant Matron and Deputy Dean so we can kick some butt. Ali will be taking on the hospital and I'm taking on the Faculty...I'm now in charge of planning the curriculum, classes, clinical placements and the stategic planning for the department - mad i know, but no one else does it so I'll give it a go -yey! We're not taking any prisoners - all clinical incidents and issues are being logged for future amunition, whether it be the disciplinary committee (it doesn't exist yet, but soon will!) or the NMC. Teaching will have to be done, no excuses and no flinging OHP notes at the class and telling them to get on with it (yes, unbelievably, that is the preferred method of educating the students!) We'll get some proper clinical policies and procedures written and get them out onto the wards, we'll spruce up the infection control and get some practice development training going so everyone can be updated - hopefully, hopefully, fingers crossed even if only it improves by 50% maybe less patients will die through neglect and negligence, and then, only then will we be happy or at least happier...
