Look at this!

Despite the interminable hindrances of Malawian timing, the irritatingly bureaucratic procurement system and the constant seeking of approval from a higher committee, the CPD pilot project is finally complete.

Its difficult to believe that all that work comes down to only 64 pages of writing but within the next 2 months what is written on those pages will become a fresh start for the Malawian healthcare system on its journey to improved standards of patient care and staff training. I’m pretty sure not every nurse midwife will be as excited as I will be to see this become a reality and I know its only the beginning of a very long process but it is progress and that is better than the nothingness they had two years ago.

There is still much to be done before I can hop on my plane home though. All the NMCM ladies need to be trained as trainers, every hospital in the country needs to nominate a CPD facilitator to send to us for training, we need to plan and hold the official launch party and then I need to wrap everything up and hand it over. I am worried for the future management of the programme but I am adamant that the time has come for them to take this on and do it on their own - the longer its babysat by me the less it’ll be seen as an NMCM venture and that is not a good idea. I also feel I’m done here (for the moment at least!) and need to stop tinkering about and get a move on following the new direction that my career will take once this is over.

Well done Clara! You must be very proud. On to Brighton, I'd say!
