The students are revolting but not in the nasty, stinky way…although there are a few halitosis harriets out there!
There have been rumblings of annoyance from them about many things for months and months, a constant stream of problems with this, that and the other, some issues are very justified but its all got a little hairy. On Wednesday, in worship, an announcement was made by a student that they all wished to meet the administration team immediately to discuss their concerns…they were informed, in no uncertain terms, that their approach was not as per protocol and if they wished to call a meeting they should go through the proper channels. A letter was subsequently written requesting the admin crew to meet with them blah blah blah, but they didn’t sign it, just said, ‘lots of love from the 1st and 2nd years’ so it wasn’t received awfully well and they didn’t get the response they were hoping for.
It got those in command flapping a bit but not as much as at 11pm that night when the students gathered outside the campus gates, chanting and waving themselves about! Frantic phone calls ensued, admin bod1 informed admin bod2 that the students had become an angry mob and were about to storm the place, admin bod3 told admin bod4 that the Student affairs director was being held hostage by the student reps…what a lot of nonsense. The principal dragged himself out the house (?in his slippers and dressing gown) and came to calm them down – at 2am he was still going…
Well, not much was resolved Thursday and so today we had an emergency staff meeting to discuss what to do, not that it was all that emergent! We mostly talked about how to improve the food situation which is one of the student’s biggest issues, the cafeteria seems to have big problems actually serving food! They frequently run out, are never ready on time and serve stuff the students think isn’t all that nice. After 3 hours all we’d really established was that the cooks are crap at cooking beans and the students don’t like eating ‘boiled chunks’(well neither would I, they sound vile) Luckily, as we approached midday, all those present could feel their own tummies rumbling so someone wrapped up with the final prayer and we dispersed – another quality meeting!
