The bat that went splat

The frequent power cuts leave me hunting about for entertainment sometimes, so one evening I sat outside, fully Deet-ed, with my camera to watch what wildlife I have in my garden and look what I found!

I spotted this little guy clinging to the wall about 6 inches off the ground, which should have made me realise that perhaps he was a 'special' bat but since he was wriggling about a bit and I thought would soon fly off I started to take some snaps..

First he had a good yawn and then started chattering away in a very high pitched squeak
(most of which I didn't hear let alone understand!)

Then he untangled himself...

...and did a few stretches

checked his wings

and got ready to go meet his buddies for dinner

But, remember he was sleeping very low down? I think he isn't allowed any higher! As he launched off the wall , instead of elegantly swooping off into the night, he went 'SPLAT', straight onto the concrete drain. Ooops! I burst out laughing, desparately wanted to pick him up and help him out but those nasty little teeth and danger of rabies made me think twice so after a last look I left him to recover from his embarassment and leave when he was good and ready!!
