Down on the farm

I spent the weekend on a farm in the country - rustic Malawian farmhouse, no electricity, wood burning stove, proper cows and goats – the lot!

I went with my landlord’s daughter, her little kiddie and the little kiddie’s friend – they’re very sweet and it almost makes one want to do a Madonna but I’m not sure I’m ready to give up my freedom yet…being constantly on the look out, being a human climbing frame, endlessly repeating the same game – its exhausting, how do parents do it?!

Luckily the animals were quite a distraction – the cows were pretty scary up close though and I don’t like how they lick their nostrils but the goats were cute, nibbling on this and that, skipping about. Unfortunately though, one ended up bleating its last early Sunday morning when it was hoiked out the pen and strung up in the tree. Half an hour later it was all chopped up, skin drying in the sunshine, insides waiting to be cooked for lunch...
