Its in their hands

CPD is up and running!

On Monday we held the first CPD facilitator training workshop and now there are 12 new CPDFs out there, spreading the word about updating nursing skills and knowledge! It seems an incredibly long way to have come since September last year and its terrifying knowing what there is still to be done.

The Boss Lady, after saying she would come then she wouldn’t, then she might and then she couldn’t, did actually turn up and do the official ‘welcome’ in the end. It still constantly amazes me how people who appear not to have been terribly involved in a project can whip up something to say that sounds as though they’ve been there every step of the way!! She very graciously thanked me and then went on to tell a story that was so appropriate and so well received that I couldn’t help admiring her once again (despite being terribly miffed that she’d caused all sorts of hassle in the run up to everything.)

…The two boys were out catching grasshoppers, one boy caught a big one told his friend that they should see the wise man and ask if he could correctly guess what was hiding in his hands. They decided they’d also ask him if it was alive or dead, if the wise man said it was alive, the boy would squish and prove the man wrong; if he said it was dead, he’d let it fly. The boys found him sitting under a tree, the boy held out his hands and his friend asked the question, ‘ Grandpa, you are such as wise man, tell us what is hiding here’. The old man cocked his head and looked at the boy’s hands, he saw a tiny leg poking out but scratched his head and rubbed his chin. After a while, he said, ‘My son, you have a fine grasshopper in there’. Smiling at each other, they asked, ‘Is it alive or dead?’ The old man looked at the boys who were grinning with expectation that they would catch the old man out. Sensing their plan, he smiled sagely and nodded his head, ‘The answer is in your hands’...

Everyone clapped and was murmuring their thoughts as she finished her little speech, she had encouraged and inspired them with something so simple but so right. I felt proud of her and the NMC and so glad I’m here to help to them.
Norma no-mates waiting for everyone to arrive
